Day 5, Week 6: Getting that workout done while traveling: More unhelpful tips!

The alarm went off at 3:30 AM again today, and I would have successfully ignored it if it weren't for the fact that the female cat scampered onto the bed and did her whole "wakey wakey RUBS NOW or CLAWS" routine.

So I was awake.  And I had no excuse not to get up and lift heavy weights in my living room.  But first I had to get a dog to get out of my workout area.

That would be a "NOPE"
I ended up doing some abs and Cathe's PHA Training, so my glutes are pretty much going to be on fire most of the day tomorrow.  But they'll be on fire in Milwaukee, because I'm here for a work conference - which is why I had to get up at 3:30 AM because it's a two-hour drive to the city of beer.  And fried cheese curds.  And Millie, the Canine Concierge.

And ghost malls.

Just in case you don't know who that is because no running
clothes are on her, that's me.

Why the heck was I in a ghost mall? Well, obviously it was because I was trying to make sure I could get my workout in tomorrow morning.  Duh.

OK, so it's not that obvious.  But that was the reason I walked through a slightly scary mostly deserted mall while people stared at the crazy short-hair woman dressed in a suit and awesome fall boots.  I was on a mission--a mission to do a tempo run on the Milwaukee lakefront tomorrow morning.  Below are some tips for getting a run (or a workout) done when you're away from home.
  • Make sure to pack whatever you need for your workout.  If you have everything you need, then you have no excuse not to do it.
  • When you eventually forget something you need (like, say, a light because you'll be running at dark o'clock in the morning in the downtown of a large city), see if any local stores are nearby to go and purchase whatever item you forgot (like, say TJ Maxx).
  • When you get to the store to purchase the items, buy that sweater and those cute pair of pants that you absolutely MUST HAVE because it is fashion fate that brought you and those pants together before actually looking for the item you came in the store for.
  • Realize that you also forgot a running hat and then walk through all of the clearance activewear and snag a cute pair of capris too.
  • Finally make it to the checkout where you realize you never actually looked for the piece of gear you came in for.
  • Find that sought-after piece of gear in the impulse buy pile at the cash register, right next to a whole bunch of water bottles and off-brand iPhone power cords.
  • Walk back through the ghost mall to your hotel and answer random questions from random dudes about your haircut. (Did a guy cut your hair? Answer: NO.)

So many learnings and bullet points:
  • If you couldn't tell, I'm really tired from being up at 3:30 AM so excuse the stream-of-consciousness that is this post.
  • A girl cuts my hair.  If that's what you need to know to reinforce traditional gender stereotypes.
  • So maybe TJ Maxx wasn't the best idea for this girl currently on a "remodeling a house" budget.
  • But you should see how cute those pants are.  It was meant to be.
  • Running with a flashlight is going to be a new and interesting experience, you betcha.

Tomorrow's workout: A little tempo by the lakefront!
